Menopause & Hypnotherapy

MENOPAUSE & HYPNOTHERAPY

Menopause is a natural process that can be difficult for women. Many women experience weight gain, mood changes, lack of confidence, stress, anxiety and other symptoms during this time in life. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to help manage these symptoms. Some experts recommend starting an exercise routine, while others recommend using natural treatments such as herbal supplements or Hypnotherapy.

The main contributors to weight gain is caused by stress and anxiety which is fair to say many women find difficult to manage alone.

This article will not focus on the biological explanation of what is going on in the female body at this time, instead I am offering you some insight on how hypnotherapy can help reduce the negative emotional symptoms and give you back control of your mind/thoughts. When we are in control of our own subconscious mind, we can get our bodies to do what we needs it to do in order to help us balance the hormonal chaos that is going on inside us and help us through this challenging period of life.

We can programme our minds to actually enjoy exercise, practice mindful eating, reduce sugar and fatty foods, increase water intake and the big one…ELIMINATE STRESS from the body which will reduce cortisol levels, thus lose weight/maintain your shape. When you are in the beautiful relaxed state of hypnosis, you have direct access to your own boss, your subconscious mind. It controls EVERYTHING that goes on in your mind and body from the day you are born.

“Menopause and perimenopause can cause symptoms like anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods. These symptoms can start years before your periods stop and carry on afterwards, and can have a big impact on your life, including relationships and work”

I don’t know about you ladies, but that sounds like a period of 20 years of MISERY if we are going to just cross our fingers and toes and hope for the best! Many women experience breakdowns in their relationships at this time when they can’t even think straight. Their rational thought has gone out the window! (not in every case, but in many) This is a critical time of our lives where the kids should be getting more independent and we have now earned back our independence and we should be enjoying life, but instead, many women are faced with feeling alone, less confident, miserable AND with an extra layer of fat on their tummy to top it off. Sounds grim I know. It’s real though and finally people are talking about it.

The reason I know this is a real miserable time for many (as I begin Perimenopause stage @ 41), is because I have been working closely with the age group of 40-60 year old women over the past 6 years, helping them take control back of their minds and habits using Hypnosis. I treat at least 50 women weekly using Hypnosis so that they can control their own mind around food, stress and various different relationships, both personal and professional.

When we are stressed, our stress hormone Cortisol is running riot in our bodies. Not only to we appear to be erratic at times, but we are putting on weight at the same time. This is fact.

Cortisol (stress hormone) is a necessary hormone with important functions in your body, which include increasing blood sugar, reducing inflammation, suppressing the immune system, and aiding in nutrient metabolism.

However, when cortisol levels are high, we experience negative side effects such as: Weight gain, high blood pressure, fatigue, mood change, irritability, flushed face, thinning skin, difficulty concentrating, sleep issues and insulin resistance.

Using Hypnotherapy during Menopause is a safe and sensible way help you control unpleasant symptoms such as stress, high blood pressure and anxiety, and if you are serious about losing weight or maintaining weight during menopause, this will also help you control your own mind around food and exercise. All of your emotions are manifested physically in the body and unless you do something to tackle these emotions you will continue to battle with your own mind making all sorts of irrational decisions throughout your Menopausal journey. I am so glad that someone introduced me to Hypnotherapy 11 years ago as it has helped me let go of the nonsense that used to be in my head. It’s like hitting an emotional reset button as you take back control of your mind.
